New Working Group Forming to Provide Guidance to DoD on E9-1-1 and NG9-1-1

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

NENA is in the process of establishing a Special Committee to work with the Department of Defense and representatives of its branches for the purpose of sharing our collective knowledge pertaining to 9-1-1. The Department of Defense is pursuing an agency-wide initiative to deploy E9-1-1 on every military installation. Military installations have a variety of existing 9-1-1 systems ranging from E9-1-1 answered on base to E9-1-1 answered off base to nothing at all, and most other situations in between. Our goal is to ensure that the department has the knowledge and understanding to make intelligent decisions as they move through their deployment activities.

In terms of participation, we are looking for NENA PSAP representatives that deal with each of the branches (i.e. one for Army, one for USAF, one for USMC, and one for Navy). We expect to use web-based teleconferencing to the greatest degree possible to achieve our goals.

We will be having a committee kick-off meeting at NENA 2013 in Charlotte on Tuesday, June 18 at 1:00PM ET in Room 205. A phone bridge will also be available.

If you are interested in participating, please contact either Jim Goerke or Jerry Eisner.
