No matter what you sell and who you sell it to, using social media as a marketing tool can help grow your brand and bank account. Posts drive targeted traffic, boost web site SEO, target audiences, build relationships and can generate media interest.

Moderator Aaron Walker navigated a savvy, energetic panel of entrepreneurs and social media gurus who offered the latest tips and trends.

"My blog without social media would not exist, especially with my niche in plus-size fashion," said Marie Denee, owner of The Curvy Fashionista, an Atlanta-based virtual home for the plus-size woman. Denee shares news from retailers, independent designers and events on her lifestyle blog. "Social media gave my business a voice. Its growth and expansion can be attributed to social media," says Denee. "I started eight years ago creating my own path and now it has become my financial livelihood and passion."

Inspiration from her grandmother tastefully nudged Jocelyn Delk Adams four years ago to launch Grandbaby Cakes, a recipe blog devoted to taking traditional recipes she enjoyed throughout her childhood and giving them a modern twist. "Social media exposed people to what I’m doing. Now that I have a recognizable brand, I work full-time on my blog, and I’m the author of a bestselling cookbook," said Adams who has made a series of national television appearances.

"I strongly encourage entrepreneurs to make small investments in social media to boost your content so the public can see it," said John Shumate, director, Water + Strategy & Innovation, PepsiCo. "From a corporate perspective, it allows us to drill down to the exact consumer with whom we want to speak."
