The U.S. participation is an important element of the Obama Administration's effort to support clean energy technologies and the development of the low-carbon economies needed to address climate change.

DOE also issued an FOA for $615 million to identify and develop new and more effective smart grid technologies.

The seven charging stations are now installed throughout the county and will be used for fleet and consumer use.

The 16 vehicles included in the purchase are 23-foot, gasoline-powered hybrid electric cutaway buses using Azure's Balance Hybrid Electric powertrain on the Ford E450 chassis.

The electric vehicle manufacturer will use loans to build an assembly plant for the Model S sedan and another facility to manufacture electric powertrains.

Developers are being given a grace period of 18 months before the charging outlets are required, according to CanadianDriver.
