Allstream Centre Wins 2nd Place in 2011 "Canada’s Best Restroom" Contest
Canada’s first conference centre built to LEED Silver Standards is taking claim to yet another top title today: Runner-up in the 2011 Canada’s Best Restroom Contest, presented by Mississauga-based Cintas Canada, a leading provider of restroom hygiene products and services. The 2011 contest attracted nominations from a wide range of businesses, including restaurants, hotels, convention centers and even a car dealership. Carlson Partners with Clean the World
Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company,  announced an agreement between Carlson Hotels and Clean the World Global LLC, a social enterprise committed to saving lives and protecting our planet, to collect and recycle hotel soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions and gels to help fight the global spread of preventable diseases. Clean the World presently works with 19 Carlson affiliated hotels that have contributed more than 8,060 lbs. of soap (nearly 43,000 soap bars). The donated soap provides 8,600 children with enough soap for an entire month.  The agreement, part of Carlson’s Responsible Business program, encompasses 607 hotels in North America and represents a significant new corporate partnership for Clean the World, which presently has hospitality partnerships in place with more than 1,200 hotel properties throughout North America.

MTCC continues to build momentum for sustainability with an unprecedented 95% waste diversion rate for USGBC’s recent Greenbuild conference
The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) is proud to report the results of its greening efforts for the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Greenbuild International Conference & Expo (www.greenbuildexpo.org) recently held at the MTCC. Even for the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green buildings, the results were impressive, with a significantly reduced footprint achieved through an unprecedented 95% waste diversion rate, energy and water conservation and an ever-increasing commitment to greening through the education of MTCC employees.

AVW-TELAV Launches ‘You Care, So We Care’ Committee
AVW-TELAV is excited and proud to announce the recent formation of its ‘You Care, So We Care’ Committee, made up of regional employee representatives from across the country. Its mission is to enhance social responsibility and awareness by engaging AVW-TELAV colleagues in charitable initiatives. The ‘You Care, So We Care’ Committee is kicking off its first national initiative, Movember, on November 1, 2011. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's faces, in Canada and around the world. International Centre proudly receives partners in project green leadership in sustainability – hospitality award
The International Centre was named recipient of the Leadership in Sustainability - Hospitality Award during the 2011 Partners in Project Green (PPG) Sustainability Awards which recognize the innovative and inspiring work of local businesses that are embracing sustainability.  Selected by a jury of their peers, winners of a PPG Leadership in Sustainability Award were evaluated in areas which showcased integrating sustainability in to operational practices, inspiring employees and peers regarding the environment and implementing cutting edge environmental technologies or practices.

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) is pleased to announce another milestone in its journey toward sustainability with the addition of a local food advocate to its team. In the newly created role of Local Food Procurement Officer, Chef and Project Manager Kelly Hughes has taken on a mandate to create and implement a new strategy for MTCC around Ontario-based sourcing. The Broader Public Sector Investment Fund as part of the Greenbelt Fund has provided funding for the position.
