Refrigerated & Frozen Foods -- The U.S. Roadmap for Material Handling & Logistics, Charlotte, N.C., predicts that there will be 1.4 million new jobs created in the supply chain and logistics sector over the next three years, says Andy Drozinski, managing executive, solutions and product groups for MHI, the Charlotte, N.C.-based producer of the MODEX tradeshow.
"And to fill those jobs, the supply chain industry must find ways to attract demographics that historically haven’t comprised a significant part of its workforce," he adds.

The era of tracking and transparency has met the era of (near) real-time Big Data, within a context of corporate supply chains and over-burdened natural systems.

June 1 is the official kick-off of hurricane season ― a timely reminder for retailers to take stock of the contingency plans they have in place in the event their supply chains are washed out by a powerful storm or impacted by another significant weather event or natural disaster.
Why do you need a contingency plan for Mother Nature? For starters, weather- and climate-related disasters have caused $2.4 trillion in economic losses and nearly 2 million deaths globally since 1971, according to the World Meteorological Organization. And more recently, you may recall the transportation and logistics shutdowns during the winter of 2014 that took a $15 billion bite out of U.S. businesses. These numbers alone should be reason enough to develop a contingency plan to help your business stay afloat during a significant business interruption, like a hurricane.

21st Century Supply Chain — Now that's not to say I'm advocating rushing headlong into anything without some thought. Your supply chain does need to be at least part tortoise in that aspect. There's value and protection in stability. But if you spend all your time planning, are you really going to be prepared when the course unexpectedly changes direction? If your first thought is to go back to the planning stage to factor in this new variable, you may soon find yourself left in the dust of a much faster paced and agile competitor.
