LonMark International has launched a new LonMark Certification Training and Testing suite that now provides the industry with a more accessible and global program. The program is fully online and self-paced, which offers students the ability to study and prepare for the LonMark Certified Professional (LCP) test in the comfort of their office or home. There is no longer a need to travel to a testing center making the program substantially more affordable and accessible.
The primary goal of the program is to create a proficiency standard helping to assure end users that they receive a solution that fits their exact installation and performance requirements. In 2008, Saint Priest, a city located in southeast Lyon in France, was one of the first urban centers to trust a young start-up company named Citylone, a French-based designer and manufacturer of communicating automatisms for public lighting management. Seven years ago, Citylone provided the city with a system of 88 luminaries, all equipped with magnetic controllers based on the LonWorks® open communicating protocol to manage an urban lighting path. As a result, the city has experienced up to 65 percent decrease in energy consumption.

 CABA Intelligent Buildings & Digital Home Forum, was a great event that brought industry professionals from the Internet of Things, Connected Homes, M2M and Intelligent Buildings together to share insights and trends for the future in these areas. On April 27th, Ron Bernstein, Executive Director, LonMark International moderated a panel on IoT Expanding High Performance Buildings. Plans are underway for next year's event. Many LonMark International members exhibited at LIGHTFAIR, including BACnet, Echelon, EnOcean Alliance, Functional Devices, LG Electronics and Osram. Among them, Echelon demonstrated their connected lighting solutions, including LumInsight CMS, a central management system. Echelon also demonstrated a hybrid PL-RF control solution, using two cobra headlights under RF control and two decorative lights under power line control.
