It's hard for me to believe that 20 years have passed since I first programmed a device using the Neuron C programming language. Back then, the first Smart Grid was just getting underway with LonWorks power-line communications coming down from the pole, into homes, and into thermostats, water heaters, and heat pumps -- and I got to be a part of it, designing thermostat user interfaces and working with some great companies along the way. Fast-forward a dozen years and the initiative was rekindled (circa 2007) -- this time with more vigor as governments began backing the efforts with brownouts/blackouts becoming more common and greater desires by nations for energy independence. Then, as now, LonWorks networking technology was there.

LonMark’s Chief Ambassador, Ron Bernstein, visited China during the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition and Electrical Building Technology fair on June 9-11, 2013. Messe Frankfort, the show’s organization recognized LonMark International as an association supporter for three years in a row with a crystal plaque of appreciation. As the largest combined lighting and buildings show in China, this important event allowed LonMark to introduce the value of open, interoperable solutions to a broad audience. Our continued beneficial relationship with Messe Frankfurt allowed LonMark to reach the broad lighting and buildings audience in China.

LonMark International also hosted a dinner meeting to discuss the future of LonMark in China.
