LonMark's Educational Sessions at Light + Building 2012

Tue. 17 April 2012 L&B, Frankfurt / Hall 11.0 – room "Granat"

10:00 AM -11:00 AM: Maximizing energy efficiency through integrated building management and lighting control

Graham Martin -  EnOcean, VP Strategic Alliance

Chris Broenniman, Infranet Partners Switzerland, CEO

Commercial buildings typically consume 40% of the energy needs of industrial nations, making them low-hanging fruit for advanced energy saving solutions. Integrating lighting control with building management systems result in a "killer app" whereby energy efficiency can be optimized for occupant comfort and productivity. The LonMark interoperability model supports the seamless integration of two popular lighting control standards: DALI and EnOcean. Both standards provide benefits to building owners and operators, yet address different requirements. This session will discuss strategies for optimizing energy efficiency through integrated lighting control, overviews of both DALI and EnOcean standards, and project references involving LonMark systems integrated to both standards.

11:15 AM – 12:15 PM: Is there a smart grid in your future?

Sven Ruin – Teroc AB, Project Manager

Chris Broenniman - Infranet Partners Switzerland, CEO

Barry Haaser – LonMark International, Executive Director

The smart grid involves the bi-directional flow of electricity and data from generation to consumption.
Increased dependence of renewable energy, rising temperature changes caused by global warming, and utility adoption of dynamic pricing is forcing utilities to adopt emerging standards such as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR). Under these changing market conditions buildings will need to adapt energy consumption based on changes in grid conditions or electricity prices. This places increased pressure on building owners and operators to implement new energy strategies for their facilities. This session will evaluate industry dynamics involving industry standards, utility programs, and emerging technologies that will impact the way buildings are commissioned in the future.

LonMark Educational Sessions

Wed. 18 April 2012 L&B, Frankfurt / Hall 11.0 – room "Granat"

10:00 AM -11:00 AM: BACnet vs. LON: The battle is over

Panel discussion

Serge LeMen - Newron System, General Manager

Hans Joerg Schweinzer - LOYTEC electronics GmbH, President

Ron Bernstein – Echelon, Senior Director, Commercial Programs and Business Development

System integrators are no longer worrying about whether to install a BACnet or LON system. More often than not, it is not a choice of one or the other, but both. Mixed systems are commonplace today. This session will give attendees a better understanding of these mixed topologies, new tools, and resources available to create open, integrated systems.

11:15 AM- 12:15 PM: Understanding LON and LonMark

Ron Bernstein -  Echelon, Senior Director, Commercial Programs and Business Development

With over 100 million devices installed worldwide, LON technology continues to be one of the most popular platforms for integrated systems. New developments involving open source software, system-level resources, hardware and software tools and certification programs are fueling industry support for this international standard.
