December Healthcare Facilities Leadership Update

Greetings from the HFL program at OCTC!  With each passing semester, the HFL program continues to hit new mile markers and experience greater student success. This past semester the program surpassed applications from over 30 states and over 100 Students who have enrolled! The HFL program has also experienced a number of student’s advancing into management positions.  One of the biggest announcements for this newsletter is the approval of a new credential for technicians called Healthcare Facilities Technician(HFT).

The HFT Certificate will be for experienced technicians who would like to affirm their healthcare experience while gaining comprehensive knowledge in five major areas:

The HFT will also be a great way to bring in new technicians and give them a template for development while they begin careers as healthcare facilities technicians.

One of the goals of the HFT program is to operationalize codes and regulations that are unique to healthcare. Students will be exposed to NFPA 99, NFPA 101, NFPA 80, NFPA 10, NFPA 110, and accreditation requirements and standards that tie directly to the work we do.

With the expansion of the healthcare outpatient environment along with expanded code requirements, the HFT is timed to meet the growing challenges of professional development for all of us that serve customers and patients while maintaining increasingly complex buildings.

The HFT Certificate is scheduled to launch Fall of 2018.   Please feel free to contact me for additional information.
