HFL News and Spotlight

May 2017

Greetings from the Healthcare Facilities Leadership program at OCTC.   With the new monthly newsletter and format, the HFL program will be expanding its content to include a wider variety of subject matter related to the HFL program, students success stories, industry trends, and professional development.  As part of my job as program director for the HFL program, I gather and research a wide variety of industry related information and trends that I often incorporate into the HFL coursework.  I also continue to expand connections with a growing number of healthcare organizations and support organizations that bring emerging issues and technologies to my attention.  I often think it would be great to share this information with other HFM professionals.

One example of this relates to a small lock smith organization in New York.   I have been discussing the issue of increasing competency and providing training for my students as it relates to keys, locks, access control, and biometrics.  This organization has a number of excellent training modules and offers an online certification to its members on keying systems.  Understanding the challenges we have with keying and locking systems in the healthcare industry, I naturally inquired if they would be open to expanding customized training for healthcare.  The answer was a very strong yes!  I hope to have news in upcoming months on this emerging partnership.

I also would like to share specific student success stories of HFL’ers around the state and region.  The first crop of Kentucky students will be receiving HFL program credentials this year.  It will be exciting to share a short bio and related information on a regular basis.

Of course, I will continue to update HFL program related information as well.  I mentioned in the February update that the HFL program had over 20 students enroll for Spring.  The program actually had its largest semester enrollment in three years with 28 new students.  In addition, the program now has enrolled students from 25 states, with the most recent state being Alaska!  Half way there! I anticipate an even bigger class for Fall 2017.  With the growing HFL enrollment, the program is also experiencing many successes.

Looking forward to future updates.

Warmest Regards,

Mike
