With the start of fall we welcome in many changes to our lives. Warmer days are going away, cooler nights are a welcome change, schools are back in session, the Chiefs have successfully kicked off another great season, and all of the performing arts venues across the metro are starting up new seasons. While it is the end of a great summer, there are many things to be excited about with the beginning of fall!

As the leaves change with the season and the air begins its descent into winter, I reflect on the summer months spent outdoors with my family and look ahead to cooler weather. Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons, bringing with it a certain warmth and comfort.

Congratulations to Susan Bartlett on getting her CMP! Susan has been in the meeting planning industry for 17 years and currently works for Bayer Animal Health, in addition to owning a small consulting business, Crossroads Event Management, LLC. Susan loves planning because she feels it's like putting a theater show together and waiting for opening night! Susan’s greatest accomplishment before attaining the CMP designation, was attaining the CTSM designation, followed closely by starting my own business "Crossroads Event Management, LLC"

The KC LIVE! Dine-Around took place on Thursday, September 8, at the Kansas City Power & Light District. The evening began at the Kill Devil Club with signature drinks, passed hors d'oeuvres and a tour of the Gallery. At the KC Live! Block, we were greeted with trays of Champagne as we began our tour with Laurie Olson, the Private Events Director. We viewed many fantastic venues available for private events and ended our tour on the beautiful patio of Cleaver & Corks to a wonderful array of delicious food and cold beverages. It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all.

Special thanks to Laurie Olson and the Power & Light District for sponsoring the event and also to the Raphael Hotel and Arvest Bank, Midland.

Health & Wellness Trends in Meeting Planning and Tourism was another very successful and educational event put on by MPIKC. It was held at the Deer Creek Golf Club in their breathtaking space overlooking the golf course. Karen Thal, Assistant Professor from Fort Hays State University, spoke about global wellness trends. She touched on workplace wellness, sustainability and how these issues are predicted to become cornerstones of responsible business practices. Door prizes from Bicycle and Kansas City Walking Tours were awarded, and everyone left with new ways to incorporate health and wellness into their next meeting.

In July, Patti Gaughan, CMP had the opportunity to travel to Cuba with Host Global Alliance on a fam trip. Her group included about 20 attendees (corporate, association, third-party planners and various DMC representatives) plus their host DMC out of Texas, their Cuban tour company representative, tour guide and bus driver. Her group flew out of Miami and spent four days and three nights in Havana. They did not have time to visit any of the beach resorts on the island, so the notes in this article refer mostly to Havana, but she provides a great general overview of her trips in addition to some great personal thoughts and observations.
