On any university’s campus, the people at the top make the difference in the experience of every student, faculty and staff member. From the dean to the university president, the choices made by campus leaders affect every aspect of a student’s collegiate career. Dining options, courses offered, on-campus housing renovations – students rely on those in leadership roles to ensure they have access to necessary amenities during life on campus.

Research shared at the recent NAICU meeting shows a "listening gap" between what the public wants from higher ed — and what higher ed thinks is important. This shouldn’t be big news to any of us. But while private college presidents rightly worry about families’ ability to pay for education, they should also be inspired to focus on the overall reputation of their institution — and of higher education as a whole. A nationwide injunction that has kept transgender students from using school bathrooms and other facilities that correspond with their gender identity will remain in place after the Trump administration decided not to challenge it in court. With a fresh calendar year, new hotels from coast to coast are opening their doors in cities big and small, and in areas where such developments are hoped to be the spark for renewal. They range from funky boutique hotels to lifestyle-oriented properties developed by furniture retailers to nationally known chains. Without further ado, here are some of the most anticipated new places to stay in the U.S. this year. (U.S. News & World Report)

An anonymous student in recovery said when deciding to go back to school after getting sober, they were shocked to learn UW-Madison didn’t have more options for sobriety housing, such as those offered by Ohio State University and Texas Tech University. (The Daily Cardinal)

On today’s university and college campuses, non-traditional students are fast becoming the new normal, a changing student demographic that is increasingly redefining the face of college students. In its previous study, Achieving Success for Non-Traditional Students, Barnes & Noble College researched the foundation of the non-traditional student journey and defined non-traditional students as fitting a variety of criteria. For a generation that grew up with smartphones in their hands, it makes perfect sense that mobile payments are gaining popularity with today’s college students. According to Barnes & Noble College research, 44 percent of students say they are interested in using mobile pay more frequently in the future and 62 percent of students say retailers who accept mobile payments are forward thinking. How would future planning for an event change if you could validate that the groups you previously invited and marketed to actually came? Making decisions with limited data isn’t ideal. And collecting insightful data can be a chore — unless you have the right tools. Learn how some of your peer institutions captured event attendance data and used it to improve their events.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
•Understand how to capture event attendance data while validating that the desired groups are attending.
•Use data to understand your events and make informed decisions.
•Determine if your marketing efforts were successful and targeted effectively, confirm you are reaching your audience and they are acting on your offers, develop promotions, see how different groups operate, identify problems, and create plans for the future.
