News From ISTAT

It is with great sadness that we report that Gilbert Speed, 81, founder of SpeedNews, passed away on 27 Jan. 2014. Speed was a long-time supporting member of ISTAT from the start, and was the recipient of the 2010 ISTAT Award. During his more than 60-year tenure in the aviation industry, he became a well-respected industry partner and touched many lives. The ISTAT Foundation has created the Gilbert W. Speed Memorial Scholarship fund in an effort to recognize the many industry contributions and friendships Speed has made during his career.

ISTAT Americas is the premier event to hear from the industry's foremost speakers. With session topics including manufacturer updates, a lessor's CEO panel, an aircraft value discussion, helicopter financing trends and more, attendees will gain valuable insight on important aviation issues all while networking with like-minded individuals.

Registration opens Monday, 24 Feb. for ISTAT Asia. This fast-growing conference has exceeded expectations each year. A record number of attendees participated in the 2013 event, which was one of the largest aviation conferences to be held in the region to date. The 2014 event will be held 4-6 May 2014 at the Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong. More details, including speakers, housing and schedule of events will be posted soon.

ISTAT hosts three international events each year, as well as an airshow reception and chalet, which assembles industry executives representing manufacturers, appraisers, financiers, lessors, airline personnel, fleet managers and remarketers.

Sponsors of each event reach a dedicated audience of industry professionals, providing you with the opportunity to showcase your company and reinforce your brand. A range of sponsorship levels are offered to make opportunities accessible to large companies and small.

It has recently been reported that high fliers in Britain’s Civil Service are being offered "resilience training" as part of leadership programs to help them cope with the demands of the job in these times of austerity. The National Health Service and other parts of the public sector have made training in resilience a part of management programs for some time. So, what is resilience? And why is it a necessary attribute for leaders?

Executives put a lot of emphasis on corporate culture, and for understandable reasons. Fostering a culture entails—in the popular metaphor of Jim Collins—"getting the right people on the bus," meaning hiring employees who buy into the corporate culture and make it a part of how they work every day. Yet it also means getting the wrong people off the bus, and that’s often the hardest part.

Gender diversity is vital to any workplace. Not just because it's a laudable goal; it simply makes bottom-line business sense. If you need proof, look no further than a recent Gallup study, which finds that hiring a demographically diverse workforce can improve a company's financial performance.
