2018 sees ISTAT reflecting on 35 years of history as we celebrate the society’s beginning in 1983. As we look back to the beginning and the growth that we have seen in the last three and a half decades, we’re seeking any materials that you may have saved through the years.

At the ISTAT America’s event in San Diego this March, ISTAT will celebrate in a number of ways, and your sharing will assist us as we look back. Requested materials include:

  • Old photos (scanned or original)
  • Video
  • Collateral
  • Jetrader issues from the '90s and early 2000s

To share materials or for any additional questions, please contact ISTAT Marketing Senior Manager Crystal Ligda at cligda@istat.org or +1.312.673.5703.

We want to hear from you! With the goal of continually improving our communication efforts in the name of better serving members, we would appreciate your help in completing an important readership survey. Your feedback will allow us to tailor our efforts and better serve member needs. The survey includes questions about Jetrader, the annual Membership Connections member directory, and ISTAT UPdate.

ISTAT Appraisers' Program
After nearly a year as chairman-elect, Bryson Monteleone was formally appointed as IBG Chairman effective 1 February 2018. As chairman, Bryson will represent the ISTAT Appraisers’ Program as a voting member of the ISTAT Board of Directors. Bryson took the reins from Phil Seymour, who served as chairman for six years. The Board of Governors and the ISTAT Board of Directors would like to thank Phil for his service.

As part of the ISTAT Americas conference, the ISTAT Appraisers' Program will again offer the pre-conference Appraising 101 program for those interested in the practice of appraising or who would just like to know more about appraisals and what they mean. Plan to attend this event Sunday, 4 March from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Marina Ballroom D. Please note that the time has changed since last month’s ISTAT UPdate.

This complimentary session features an inside look at the ISTAT Appraisers' Program, aircraft appraisal fundamentals and steps to becoming an appraiser. Session topics include:

  • The ISTAT Appraisers' Program and introduction to the handbook and code of ethics
  • Types of aircraft appraisals and definitions
  • Becoming an appraiser — the requirements, process and examinations

Contact Samantha Kirby at skirby@istat.org to register.

The spring issue of Jetrader, which should arrive in member mailboxes in mid-March, includes an appraisal of the A320neo by Senior Appraiser Angus McKay and Appraiser Kara Levine, both of ICF International, and an appraisal of the 737 MAX 8 by Appraiser Ben Chapman of Flight Ascend Consultancy.

Industry News
As reported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in year-end reports, 2017 culminated with higher-than-average industry growth figures. As measured by revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), demand grew 7.6% in 2017 when compared against the previous year.

According to recent estimates, the Asia-Pacific region could carry as many as 3.5 billion passengers by 2036, which is more than double similar projections in a similar time frame for air traffic in Europe and North America combined. And according to representatives from Boeing, manufacturers will need to produce more than 16,000 new aircraft to meet that demand.

According to an Aviation Week forecast, the Asia-Pacific region's in-service fleet is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.8% annually. Additionally, the same forecast projects the region's MRO sector to be valued at approximately $22.5 billion by 2027.
