As IT security threats grow increasingly complex each year, the need to stay on top of cybersecurity is greater than ever. The IT security trends and challenges for 2019 include targeted phishing attacks, operationalizing GDPR, managing managed and unmanaged devices, user awareness, and tracking shadow IT inventory.

As a result of the 35-day government shutdown, a number of federal cybersecurity initiatives were suspended, and lawmakers are concerned that agencies will now encounter increased difficulties to hire and retain qualified cybersecurity professionals. However, according to a report from Security Scorecard, some aspects of cybersecurity, such as patching and endpoint security, also improved during the shutdown.
