The Awards and Recognition Program is a wonderful way to recognize leaders in the field and outstanding projects accomplished over the past year. The awards are announced at the IAPD/IPRA Conference Awards Luncheon in front of colleagues and legislators from across the state. Nomination deadline is October 29. Beginning October 15, you can apply for capital grants through IDNR for park and facility construction. Take a look at this website for details.

A teen advisory group is a very useful tool - a window into the teen community - and could be a vital part of your organization and what is missing to get your teen programs running. Participants will learn how to successfully begin a teen advisory group and strategies to keep your advisory group running. Participants will learn how to target specific areas and how teen advisory groups may be useful in their programs. It will also educate front line staff on the importance of customer service in their job and how to handle difficult situations that may arise. Date: November 16, 2010 - 10:00 AM Presented by: John Engh, Chief Operating Officer, NAYS (National Alliance for Youth Sports) For years, youth sports professionals have been focused on training and background screening of volunteer coaches. While these are important factors of the equation, they are only half the equation. Once a volunteer is effectively screened and trained, there should be systems in place to ensure coaches are reflecting your department’s philosophies and coaches are held accountable of their behavior. Participants will learn a proactive approach to managing youth sports coaches, and will gain insight on developing policies for evaluation and accountability of volunteer youth sports coaches. The day’s program regarding this huge issue will be explored. Participants will be able to come away with some best practices on how to "weather" the storm and also share success stories and failures of how each agency is coping. This timely subject matter may bring a sunnier forecast if planning and follow through efforts are part of your future approaches.
