We are excited to announce the release of a new book co-authored by Fulbright Distinguished alumna, Mayra Tristan, called Cuaderno de Lectura para Primaria. This book is the first in what will be a series of Spanish literacy workbooks geared toward Spanish bilingual or dual language elementary education students. With more than 50 lessons for beginning Spanish readers and explanations of concepts written in Spanish, students will benefit from authentically written Spanish materials and the common language surrounding these crucial Literacy topics. Sample lessons are available on the Read en Español website.

Mayra Tristan traveled to Mexico in the spring of 2016 for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program. While in Mexico, she worked on a project called The Metalanguage Connection: Using My Language to Learn a Second One, exploring strategies and methodologies that educators in Mexico use to teach Spanish reading and writing, and English as a second language and investigated how students use their first language to learn a second one.

The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by IIE.
