The online application for the Whitaker International Undergraduate Program Spring 2014 cycle is now available at http://undergradapplication.whitaker.org/ with an October 15, 2013 deadline.

The online application for the Whitaker International Summer Program for Summer 2014 is also available at http://summerapplication.whitaker.org/ with a February 4, 2014 deadline.

With support from the former Whitaker Foundation, IIE provides biomedical and bioengineering students (and those in a related field) funding to pursue coursework, research, or an internship in an international setting that is approved by their home university and relevant to biomedical engineering (BME).

Summer Program Grants are designed for currently enrolled Master's or PhD students, or recent Master's recipients. Summer awards are for eight weeks, typically between June 1 and August 31. Up to 20 awards will be available for summer 2014. Award amount includes a fixed fellowship award, monthly maintenance allowance, international airfare, settling-in allowance, and insurance.

Undergraduate Grants are designed for currently enrolled Undergraduate students with a study abroad program approved by their home university related to Biomedical Engineering. Up to 15 awards will be available for the spring 2014 term. Award amounts range from $7,500 for a semester program to $10,000 for an academic year program.

To be eligible for the award, an applicant must:
  • have U.S. citizenship or be a permanent resident of the United States, and
  • for the Summer Program, be enrolled as a Master's or PhD student, or recent Master's recipient, or
  • for Undergraduates, be enrolled as a Sophomore (2nd year), Junior (3rd year), or Senior (4th or 5th year), with at least one semester remaining, in an undergraduate BME (or related major) degree program with good academic standing
For the Whitaker Undergraduate Program, a student may apply to attend any overseas academic institution that is endorsed by the student's study abroad advisor. The advisor must certify that the program is approved, and the student will receive academic credit at the home institution. The advisor must also certify the student's financial aid need. Students that already have the cost of the program fully covered may not apply for the scholarship and receive duplicative funding. However, if the program is only partially funded by another source, the applicant may apply.

We look forward to receiving approved applications from your students by the application deadlines. To learn more about the Whitaker International Program please visit www.whitaker.org, and feel free to contact us with any questions.
