The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program recently announced the names and campuses of the more than 1,000 outstanding students who have been offered a Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad in Spring 2013.  As a reminder, the Gilman Program has provided a press release template that your campus press office can use to announce this exciting news in campus publications as well as to the media.  If you have students who were selected to receive Gilman awards for Spring 2013 study, please be sure to share this information with your campus media relations and communications teams.  You can download the list of selected students and the press release template from the News and Events column on the Gilman Program homepage, www.iie.org/gilman.

In total, the Gilman Scholarship Program will award more than 2,800 scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year, the largest annual number of Gilman awards to date.  For the Spring 2013 selection, eighty selection panelists from colleges and universities around the nation met at the IIE-Houston office to review and select from more than 2,600 applications under consideration.  Once again, we would like to thank all the Gilman advisors and selection panelists for helping to make this program such a success.

The Gilman International Scholarship Program is a congressionally funded program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) through IIE’s office in Houston, Texas. The Gilman Scholarship Program offers U.S. undergraduate students grants of up to $5,000 to participate in a study abroad program.  Students studying a critical need language could be eligible to receive a grant of up to $8,000. The Gilman Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not study abroad due to financial constraints.
