The report covers themes ranging from inequality, gender, and teaching and learning to conflict, literacy, and early childhood care and education. IIE&rsquo;s research team was commissioned by UNESCO to prepare a background paper for the 2016 report, which also resulted in the <a href="http://www.naylornetwork.com/iie-nwl/pdf/Chapter_18.pdf" target="_blank">chapter on Scholarships</a> within the report. This is the first year that the SDGs have included higher education, and IIE&rsquo;s research team focused on measuring the extent to which students from the developing world receive government scholarships to study abroad. IIE was invited to contribute to this chapter because of expertise in designing and implementing scholarship programs and expertise in monitoring and analyzing global mobility data.</div> </p> 10/27/2016 11:13:12 AM http://www.naylornetwork.com/iie-research/articles/index-v4.asp?aid=408089&amp;issueID=45779 Review of IIE&rsquo;s Book: A Student Guide to Study Abroad http://www.naylornetwork.com/iie-research/articles/index-v4.asp?aid=408091&issueID=45779 <p><strong style="font-size:10px;"><a href=https://www.naylornetwork.com/iie-research/newsletter-v2.asp?issueID=45779>October 28, 2016</a> -- <em></em></strong><br /> <div><span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://ihec-djc.blogspot.com/2016/10/review-of-student-guide-to-study-abroad.html?m=1" target="_blank">Read the Review</a> | <a href="http://www.iie.org/Research-and-Publications/Publications-and-Reports/IIE-Bookstore/Student-Guide-to-Study-Abroad-2013" target="_blank">Buy the Book</a></span></div> <div><br /> </div> <div>The<a href="http://ihec-djc.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> International Higher Education Consulting Blog</a> recently featured a comprehensive review of IIE&rsquo;s publication,<span style="font-style: italic;"> A Student Guide to Study Abroad</span>. The HER pilot program provided secondary school scholarships to 100 female students from underserved populations in Ethiopia, with the ultimate goal of contributing to their success in secondary school and university enrollment. NCEA activities are largely under-reported, and this study shows that students are pursuing a range of NCEA activities that go beyond non-credit work, internships and volunteer abroad (WIVA) including conducting research or field work, presenting at academic conferences, competing in athletic events, and engaging in the performing arts. This survey is the first to delve deeply into the topic of strategic academic partnerships to find out what motivates institutions to enter into them, how they are managed, and what the impact is on their institutions.</div> <div><br /> </div> <div>This survey report is included in IIE&rsquo;s latest publication,&nbsp;<span style="font-style: italic;">Global Perspectives on Strategic International Partnerships: A Guide to Developing Sustainable Academic Linkages&nbsp;</span>(March 2016), produced in partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The second in the "Global Perspectives" series, this book takes an in-depth look into strategic institutional linkages from a host of vantage points, providing readers with critical case studies, practical advice, theoretical background, and good practices for developing successful partnerships. Authored by practitioners from around the world, this publication pushes the global dialogue surrounding institutional partnerships to focus on what makes a partnership strategic, how long-term partnerships are managed, and what underlying tenets should guide those seeking to initiate or improve their strategic partnerships. It includes:</div> <div><br /> </div> <div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Results from a global survey on strategic international partnerships</div> <div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>In-depth case studies of long-term, successful strategic partnerships</div> <div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Guidance for initiating, expanding, evaluating, and terminating relationships</div> <div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>New models for addressing ethics, culture, and mutual benefit&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Recommendations for partnership paradigms in international development work</div> <div><br /> </div> <div>This publication is edited by Clare Banks, Institute of International Education (IIE), and Birgit Siebe-Herbig and Karin Norton, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
