Doubling & Diversifying Study Abroad by 2020
Explore. Exchange. Experiment.

Proposal Submission Deadline: February 16, 2016

Are you interested in shaping the future of study abroad? Share your expertise and connect with leaders in education, business and government. Submit a Session Proposal for the 2016 IIE Summit on Generation Study Abroad held on October 23-25, 2016 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

Building on last year’s popular interactive sessions and networking opportunities, the 2016 IIE Summit aims to go beyond the traditional panel format – to engage participants in hands-on learning and outside of the box thinking – by exploring innovative action plans, exchanging effective tools and experimenting with new approaches to further advance our mutual goal of doubling and diversifying study abroad by the end of the decade.

Proposals should reflect the spirit of innovation across the following themes:
Theme 1: New Study Abroad Models and Marketing Directions
Theme 2: Forging New Partnerships to Advance your Pledge
Theme 3: Commitments that Work: Learning from Innovative Solutions (and Failures)
Theme 4: Making the Case for Study Abroad: Using Data to Promote Study Abroad and Change Perceptions

The Institute of International Education (IIE) welcomes proposals for one of the following interactive formats:
  • Think Tanks: Interactive brainstorming sessions, where participants will engage in big-picture thinking to identify creative solutions to specific challenges.
  • Learning Labs: Workshops/Master Classes on specific topics that will help participants to advance their commitments.
  • Summit Talks: Short, high-impact individual presentations on hot topics, new ideas and specific solutions relevant to the theme of doubling & diversifying study abroad by 2020.
  • Panel Sessions: Panel discussions that incorporate diverse stakeholders and perspectives, and encourage interaction among presenters and the audience.
You may also submit individual presentations to be included on a panel. IIE will create sessions that bring presenters together based on theme and content.
The IIE Summit will result in the sharing of ideas, research and practices that encourage new ways of approaching study abroad. Participants will walk away with a strong network of partners and with specific resources to help them reach their commitments.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The IIE Summit on Generation Study Abroad represents a unique opportunity to reach influential decision-makers and higher education leaders from across the U.S. and around the world. Last year's inaugural Summit held in Washington, convened more than 600 representatives of commitment partner institutions and organizations, as well as government and business leaders and journalists to discuss ways to increase and diversify study abroad participation. Organizations with an interest in capitalizing on the strong momentum of the Generation Study Abroad initiative should consider sponsorship and/or exhibitor opportunities at the 2016 IIE Summit. There are a limited number of "Strategic Event" and other high-visibility sponsorships available. For information, please review the Sponsorship Prospectus or contact Jeff Bunkin with IIE’s Media Partner, Naylor, at +1.352.333.3342, Email: jbunkin@naylor.com.
