The Institute of International Education, the U.S. implementing partner for the Global Innovation Initiative, is seeking university faculty and research professionals to participate in the selection and assessment of applications for the Global Innovation Initiative. Individuals with expertise in STEM-related fields in the four thematic areas are invited to volunteer to sit on a selection panel:
  • energy, climate change and the environment;
  • urban development;
  • agriculture, food security and water; and
  • global health.
The Global Innovation Initiative (GII) is a higher education partnership grant opportunity funded by the U.S. Department of State; the UK Department of Business, Innovation, and Skills; and the British Council. Universities may submit proposals for funding to GII for grant support of a new or existing partnership with a UK institution of higher education and an institution of higher education in a designated country, including Brazil, China, India, or Indonesia. Two parallel but separate grant competitions are being offered in the United States and United Kingdom.  As the implementing partner for the U.S. grant competition, the Institute of International Education is working diligently with the British Council, the UK implementing partner, to align the competitions as closely as possible. Both organizations are currently independently identifying experts in certain STEM-related areas to sit on a selection committee in one of the four thematic focus areas. For more information about GII please visit www.global-innovation-initiative.org

Participating on a GII selection committee entails:
  • Reading and scoring up to 25 proposals, each comprised of a 10-page narrative, application form, supporting documents, and budget information between November 10, 2014 and December 8, 2014.
  • Submitting your completed scoring sheets by December 8, 2014.
  • Participating in a selection conference call on either December 10, 2014 or December 11, 2014.
If interested to sitting on a GII selection panel, please email Raquel Battle at rbattle@iie.org with your contact information and a brief description of your area(s) of expertise as relevant to this grant competition.
