The spring 2013 IIENetworker magazine, titled "Higher Education and International Development" is now available as a free interactive web flipbook. The issue examines a wide range of international development strategies that colleges, universities, and other organizations have devised and implemented to foster economic and educational growth around the world.

This issue of IIENetworker explores new and creative models for international development that are being led by universities and other types of institutions, as well as innovative partnerships between higher education and funding organizations.

Nico Cloete from the Centre for Higher Education Transformation, Peter Maassen from the University of Oslo, and Teboho Moja from New York University examine the interactions between higher education and international development aid, based on the findings of a long-term research project of the Higher Education Research and Advocacy Network in Africa. Jeanne-Marie Duval of Higher Education for Development writes about partnerships at the nexus of global change and Everlyn Anyal of the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program-Kenya, discusses the critical role of leadership training.

Other projects highlighted in articles include:

  • The University of Cologne's capacity-building project in Myanmar
  • A collaboration between Mexico’s CETYS University and Honeywell
  • A case study on collaboration from Nigeria
  • A partnership between Rutgers University and Tibilisi State University

This issue also includes a special interview with Brazilian Minister of Education Aloizio Mercadante about the Scientific Mobility Program, part of the government’s initiative to grant 100,000 scholarships to Brazilian students to study abroad at the world’s best universities, and a special section highlighting innovations in international education achieved by the winners of IIE’s Andrew Heiskell Awards.
