Josep Anton Ferré Elected Rector of the University of Rovira i Virgili in Spain

The University of Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Spain, elected a new rector on May, 13 2014. Josep Anton Ferré, professor of Fluid Mechanics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will replace Francesc Xavier Grau, who held the post of rector of the University from 2006. Mr Ferré’s mandate will last for four years, and he can stand for a second consecutive four year term.

URV made several rankings this year for the first time, including the Times Higher Education One Hundred Under Fifty list (66th) and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The URV is also leading the list of most cited articles among the Spanish universities, according to the Leiden ranking. This ranking measures the scientific impact of worldwide universities and their scientific collaboration. The URV is placed 180 among 750 universities in the world, and 82 in Europe.
