The Gilman Program seeks to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Specifically, the Gilman Scholarship Program provides undergraduate students up to $5,000 to participate in a study abroad program. Students studying a critical need language could be eligible to receive up to $8,000. U.S. undergraduate students who are Federal Pell Grant recipients currently matriculated in a college or university in the U.S. may apply for the Gilman Program. Eligible study abroad programs provide academic credit for a minimum of four weeks in a country outside of the United States. Please reference the Gilman website for eligibility requirements.

The Gilman Scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Institute of International Education. For questions, please contact the Gilman Program.
