In Fall 2011 issue of IIENetworker, which focuses on innovation in international education, Rolf Hoffmann of the German-American Fulbright Commission and Susan Carvalho of the University of Kentucky highlighted the Discover Germany – Discover USA Program in an article entitled, "Exploring Identity through Exchange: The Discover Germany – Discover USA Program." This program involves a bilateral exchange of students from underrepresented groups for fully funded, five-week terms of study in Germany and Kentucky. In the article, Hoffmann and Carvalho examine how the program enables students from underrepresented groups in both countries to reconsider their own concepts of identity through a global lens.
