While Libya faces a host of immediate challenges to security and development, long-term democratic and economic stability requires reform across a variety of sectors, one of the most important, argues Darren L. Linvill in Inside Higher Ed, is higher education. "Healthy and effective universities are essential for training the scientists, engineers, bureaucrats, entrepreneurs and teachers required if democracy in Libya is to succeed," writes Linvill, who makes several recommendations for higher education reform in Libya.
