Washington, DC 20005

Is higher education a good investment for development? As higher education increasingly comes onto the radar screen of the international development community, the question of what the economic rate of return on investment is becomes all the more important to assess and understand.

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, along with USAID, will host a panel of leading scholars who will share their research and perspectives, followed by a response from senior leaders in the development sector, representing USAID, the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the World Bank.

Leading education economists and development sector experts will discuss the role of higher education in development and how the economic and social impacts of higher education investments can best be measured. The presentations and discussion will explore the expanded array of metrics that are available to capture the wide-ranging effects of higher education on development. Audience members will have an opportunity to engage in discussion about these important issues.
