October 21-25, 2012
Washington, D.C.

193 mid-career professionals from 93 countries working in fields including Communications/Journalism, Education Administration, HIV/Aids Policy and Prevention and Public Policy and Administration among others, will gather for a five-day conference that includes sessions on consensus building to solve global problems, leadership and public service and professional networking. While in Washington, the 2012-13 Humphrey Fellows who are based at 18 U.S. host universities will have the opportunity to hear from program alumni, network with professionals in their fields, visit area high schools, and attend a reception in their honor with diplomats from their home countries hosted by the U.S. Department of State.

Founded in 1978 in honor of the late Senator and Vice-President Hubert H. Humphrey, the Program provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for professionals from designated countries throughout the world. Funding for the program comes from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. Fellows engage in graduate-level non-degree study and related professional experiences and are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. The program now has a network of nearly 4,700 alumni in 157 countries around the world working to improve their communities and the lives of those in need.
