To mark its 10th anniversary, IIE's Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) is featuring the inspiring stories of 10 threatened scholars whose lives and academic work have been saved by the Fund.

Dr. Martin C. Njoroge, a Kenyan scholar of sociolinguistics, approached SRF for support when violent political protests erupted in Kenya in response to the outcome of the presidential elections. An SRF partnership with the University of Pennsylvania allowed Dr. Njoroge to conduct his research in safety until he was able to return to Kenya a year later. He is now Director of the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University.
