The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is a young institution in the city of Sulaimani, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The American University of Iraq was established in 2006 and has developed rapidly. Enrollment currently exceeds 500, with students drawn from all regions of the country, and AUIS is poised for steady growth in future years. New buildings and facilities have been constructed on a small portion of a new campus of more than 400 acres. AUIS is Iraq’s only private, nonprofit university based on the American model of higher education, with all classes taught in English. For more information on AUIS, please visit www.auis.edu.iq.

Engineering Program Chair
Under the academic guidance of the University of Colorado, AUIS has initiated a general engineering degree program and will soon add degree programs in mechanical and petroleum engineering. These programs are built on the foundation of a well-structured liberal arts core curriculum.

AUIS seeks to appoint an Engineering Program Chair to guide in the development and implementation of the engineering degree programs, including curriculum, faculty, staff, and laboratory facilities. This represents a unique career opportunity for an experienced engineering educator to establish an engineering program "from the ground up" in a secure, developing, and scenic region of Iraq. The successful candidate, who will occupy an endowed chair, will possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and will have the capacity to function successfully in a rapidly developing post-conflict society. AUIS anticipates this position being filled for the 2012-13 academic year.

To apply, please send a letter of interest, current resume, and list of references to the Search Committee Chair. Also, for nominations or enquiries, please contact the Search Committee chair: David E. Clough, Professor, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, +1 303.492.6638 or David.Clough@Colorado.edu.

Manager of Lab and Science Resources
AUIS is seeking a Manager of Lab and Science Resources to oversee the development and maintenance of its newly constructed general science laboratories, which will be used for teaching introductory science courses.

Responsibilities include procurement of supplies, continuous review of the laboratory curriculum, design of new laboratory experiments and demonstrations, and day-to-day supervision of labs and scientific resources. A willingness to engage in lab instruction, the grading of laboratory notebooks, and possible course instruction, as needed, is preferred.

AUIS, under the academic guidance of the University of Colorado, has recently initiated a general engineering program and will soon add degree programs in mechanical and petroleum engineering. To this end, depending on qualifications and performance of the successful candidate, the above position may be expanded to include design and supervision of engineering labs.

Applicants should have solid academic credentials and proven experience in managing science laboratories. To apply, please send a letter of interest, current resume, and list of references to recruitment@auis.edu.iq.
