IIE Emergency Student Fund to Assist Syrian Students on U.S. Campuses

The Emergency Student Fund (ESF) of the Institute of International Education (IIE) is issuing a call for nominations from U.S. colleges and universities that have Syrian students on campus with urgent financial need due to the situation in Syria.

IIE’s Syria-ESF will provide emergency grants of $2,000 each to Syrian students nominated by their U.S. host colleges and universities who are unable to continue or complete their degree program in the U.S. due to serious financial difficulties precipitated by the situation in their home country. Accredited United States campuses are invited to nominate up to four Syrian students at their institutions for whom help is needed to complete spring semester 2012. IIE expects U.S. institutions nominating these Syrian students to also help address their urgent financial needs through tuition waivers, scholarships, and other forms of assistance.

International Student Advisers or other campus officials are invited to submit applications to IIE using the nomination form in the link indicated below. Syrian students cannot apply directly and should consult their International Student Adviser for assistance.

The deadline for submission is February 29, 2012. Please nominate as soon as possible. Decisions will be sent to the students and nominators by mid-March.
