Deadline for the Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program: January 23, 2012
Deadline for the Summer Grants Program: February 6, 2012

The Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program sends emerging leaders in U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) overseas to undertake a self-designed project that will enhance their own careers within the field. In the first five years of the Whitaker Program, 140 grants have been awarded to Fellows and Scholars to conduct projects in over 25 countries worldwide. The Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars program competition deadline is coming up on January 23, 2012. The deadline for the Summer Grants Program is also coming up on February 6, 2012.

There will be approximately 60 grants available to high-quality candidates for the Fellows and Scholars program and close to 20 for the Summer program.

What Is the Whitaker Program?
The Whitaker Program provides grant funding for projects in biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) overseas. It includes:

  • Award: Monthly living stipend, round-trip international travel, accident and sickness insurance, and tuition allowance, where appropriate.
  • Projects: High-quality BME-relevant proposals will be funded, which can include: coursework, policy research, internships, and postdoctoral work.
  • Fellows (Pre-Doctoral): Partial to full tuition reimbursement.
  • Scholars (Post-Doctoral): Overall award competitive with postdoctoral fellowship salaries.
