New Article: U.S. Opens Its Doors to Iraqi Students

An article in USA Today reports that both the U.S. Department of State and the Government of Iraq are making efforts to enroll thousands of students in U.S. colleges and universities. According to IIE’s Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, the number of Iraqi students studying in the U.S. was up 45 percent for the 2010-11 school year. In order to encourage Iraqi students to study in the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad sponsored an EducationUSA University Fair, which was implemented by the Institute of International Education, in the northern city of Erbil (Iraqi Kurdistan Region) from October 14-15, 2011. At that fair, over 20 U.S. colleges and universities spoke directly with approximately 1,500 students.
