Over seventy thousand people have been killed in narco-related crimes in Mexico in the past six years, but in her book, Shannon O'Neil shows us that there is far more to Mexico's story. She argues that "while thugs have been grabbing the headlines, Mexico has undergone an unprecedented and under-publicized political, economic, and social transformation." She calls our attention to Mexico’s globally competitive economy, rising middle class, and their increasingly influential pro-democracy voters, and outlines why these changes matter for the United States.
