Last week, International Carwash Association announced a new initiative to address emerging vehicle technologies and their growing impact on car wash operators and drivers. As part of the launch, ICA sent a survey to help guide its work by capturing information to use to represent the professional car wash industry to the automotive design, manufacturing and aftermarket segments. Thursday’s BIRD Bash gave property owners the chance to munch on bratwurst, down a libation or two, and talk about where their East Billings neighborhood has been and where it’s headed. Attendees celebrated atop one of their largest and most recent accomplishments — the smooth asphalt running down Second Avenue North between North Ninth and North 10th streets and on adjoining streets as well, part of a $3.1 million infrastructure investment.

Cars can get pretty gross. On the outside, you have to deal with road grime, dead bugs and other unmentionables. The inside can be even worse, with stray crumbs lost forever between seats, used napkins stuffed deep into pockets and dirt accumulating in the footwells. Finding time to run to the car wash is hard enough — let alone actually detailing the inside.

Two local men are planning on putting an automated car wash on East State Street in Athens. James Trout, an Athens electrical contractor, said his partner in the project is J.R. McKee, who works at McKee Auto Parts. According to Courthouse records, Trout recently purchased property on East State Street for $140,000. The site is next to the El Camino restaurant.

When I was a young employee, I remember a discussion with a former boss about our business goals. I asked for clarity on what they were. He told me they were to a) hit our target of 10 percent profit growth, and b) get him promoted. If he was as cool a dude as my man-crush Justin Timberlake, then maybe I could get a little excited about achieving that second goal (in hopes of getting asked to hang out). Maybe. Frankly, the first goal wasn't that inspiring either.
