Step outside and you might mistake the middle of January for spring. Taking advantage of unseasonably warm temperatures, Omahans flocked to metro-area car washes Saturday to clean some salt and grime off their vehicles. Artavious Whiteis, a cashier at the Russell Speeder's at 404 S. Saddle Creek Road, estimated about 1,600 cars came through the car wash Friday. By 2:15 p.m. Saturday, an additional 930 or so cars had passed through, Whiteis said.

Even the weather could not stop customers from visiting the new red and yellow Goo Goo Express Car Wash which opened for business on Tuesday. "We have locations in Birmingham, Auburn, Montgomery and Columbus and felt Alexander City would fit in well with that grouping," said Goo Goo spokesperson Phil Wise Tuesday. "We have a good following and with the attraction of the lake there, we think it will be a good location."
