As an added benefit of membership, HRMAM offers the Professional Mentorship Program. The aim of this member only program is to help link established human resource professionals with students, emerging HR practitioners, and HR professionals looking to transition to a new field of interest, taking on a new capacity within their organizations, or interested in developing new skills for future career aspirations. These relationships enable the program participants and business leaders to exchange knowledge and experience relating to skill, culture and values. Participants gain valuable individual feedback and may observe companies and their leaders at work. Overall, relationships of trust, respect and appreciation are built to enhance our shared community. The HRMAM Professional Mentorship Program is committed to promoting professionalism and mutual benefit to both Mentor and Protégé. 

Due to overwhelming interest from mentors, we are able to accept more Protégés. As such, we have extended the deadline for Protégés until September 5. We have mentors in Generalist, Director, Manager and Administration positions interested in mentoring Protégés in the student, entry and emerging levels of their career.

2014 CHRP Competency Framework - As announced on August 11, the NKE will be updated to reflect the nine functional knowledge areas for the June 2015 exam and beyond. NKE preparation courses will be updated in early 2015 to help candidates prepare for the new NKE. Members can choose to write the current NKE (covering seven functional knowledge areas) in November 2014 or write the updated NKE in June 2015 and beyond.The registration deadline for the November NKE is September 2, 2014.

How different will the updated NKE, administered in June 2015 and beyond, be from the final offering of the current NKE administered in November 2014? The number of questions on the NKE will remain the same. The level of difficulty will be the same. In the current NKE, some of the seven functional knowledge areas count or "weigh" more than others. The updated NKE will weigh each of the nine functional knowledge areas equally. The current NKE does have some questions that test the two new functional knowledge areas, organized under current knowledge areas. The updated NKE will test some additional competencies in the two new functional knowledge areas.



The CHRP Validation of Professional Experience Assessment is a formal step in earning the CHRP designation that requires candidates to demonstrate three or more years of professional experience in human resources within the last ten years. 

To gain your CHRP designation through the assessment experience, CHRP Candidates will be required to submit a completed application. This application will need to be validated by your current employer. In order to be eligible to submit an application you need to be a Candidate (someone who has passed the NKE) and have had your proof of degree verified.

The next submission deadline is September 15.

In the news...

Declaring that it wants to focus on competency-based certification, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in the United States has unveiled plans to offer its own HR designation. The move is making waves south of the border, with HR professionals uncertain about their accreditation and questions around the certification process overall. Read more here


Employees may be suffering from hidden disabilities that affect performance, require accommodation 

The recent death of Robin Williams shocked and saddened people across the world. In addition to the tremendous loss the public has suffered, and the sadness at such an untimely death, many people have been left wondering how someone that brought joy to so many people apparently suffered from depression so great that he could take his own life. The Alberta Federation of Labour says nothing short of scrapping the temporary foreign worker program is sufficient to protect the rights of Canadian workers. Read more here

One of the latest trends in employee compensation and motivation is giving employees four (small) raises a year as opposed to one large raise. Many companies have become strong proponents of this innovative payment strategy and executives are dumping the annual salary review in favor of giving out raises and bonuses a couple times per year.
