In the course of day-to-day operations, organizations need to know what legislation applies to the workplace in general and what aspects of the legislation apply to them personally. Knowing this is essential for protecting employees from injury, limiting the personal liability, and assisting the employer in achieving legislated and moral obligations to protect workers.

This lunch and learn session has been designed to ensure that organizations understand their roles and responsibilities under Manitoba safety legislation including how to maintain a safety program efficiently and effectively.

David Erl, CSO, HSP, CHSC, CRSP, CPO, Director of Occuptional Health and Safety for Safety Services Manitoba will be presenting.

On December 31, 2013, amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations came into effect. These amendments:

  1. Introduced new compliance tests and prerequisites that employers must meet before hiring temporary foreign workers; and
  2. gave government officers expanded powers to verify compliance with the Regulations, including the power to conduct warrantless searches on employer premises.
In June 2013, HRMAM sent a submission on these amendments to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. To learn more, click here

Some businesses have been forced to move projects out of Canada because of the federal government's ongoing crackdown on temporary foreign workers, according to a new survey. Read more here
