The HR & Leadership Conference took place on October 27 & 28, 2015, bringing together over 350 delegates, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and speakers. It was an amazing event and we are already looking forward to next year.

We have recently created a new position at HRMAM, the Membership Services Coordinator and welcomed Tapasya Sharma (Tash) to our team on Monday, October 26. If you visited our booth at the HR & Leadership Conference this week you may have already met her. She will be working alongside Lori on memberships and the CHRP program. Welcome aboard!
 
The HR Excellence Awards are designed to showcase outstanding Human Resource achievements in Manitoba, honouring employers and individuals who are leaders in diversity, development, impact and innovation.
 

HRMAM will be hosting an information session for individuals and organizations interested in applying for an HR Excellence Award. We will help you kick-start your application and give you an opportunity to ask questions about the process. We will be talking about the Awards, changes to the categories for 2016, the application process, how to apply and what to expect.

In the case, an adjudicator reinstated an alcoholic employee who was dismissed after he was found to be under the influence of alcohol at work in a safety sensitive workplace. The adjudicator's decision resulted from the approach taken by the employer, which created the general impression in the mind of the employee that the threat of dismissal was not serious — that is, that the employer’s compassionate approach would continue. Read more here

 

Every workplace has sports fans and what would typically be looked at as a distraction may actually increase engagement amongst your employees. Employers should consider planning ahead for sporting events that employees are likely to care about and organizing an engagement-driving office occasion.  Read more here

 

A new trend is seeing companies using wearable technology devices on employees to gather data on their activity and sleep patterns in an attempt to encourage increased fitness levels and productivity.
