A Call to Action from Philadelphia

I have to say that coming to Conference this year was a bittersweet experience because this September we have been witness to so much devastation and suffering caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria and the massive earthquake in Mexico. While business commitments demand my brain to focus, maintain its composure and provide others with direction, my heart weighs heavy for Houston, Mexico, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.Throughout the past month, we have been actively working with the presidents of local chapters to support their recovery activities – specifically, South Florida, Tampa Bay, Orlando and Puerto Rico.

As we participated at Conference activities last week, we have been able to take a moment to pause and think about how we can be an instrument of change and support outside of our day-to-day work. The Prospanica/NBMBAA conference partnership decided to purchase supplies for the Houston recovery. We paused to think about how this collaboration between Prospanica and NBMBAA could provide relief to the community at large, and worked with the Houston Mayor’s office. We thought about about how we could make a difference above and beyond our leadership roles in the professional realm, so representatives from both organizations joined forces once again to help uploading donations at the Greenspoint Transfer Center earlier this month.

During Conference, we have indeed learned valuable lessons from subject matter experts, networked with diverse professionals, advanced our careers through access to employment opportunities, recognized our Brillante Awards recipients and explored new business partnerships. Most importantly, we demonstrated the power of togetherness. I encourage us all to also think about how we can continue to work together to have an impact in our community once we get back home. Let’s get to work!

Warm regards,
Thomas Savino
