At last week's Holiday Workshop Special Luncheon, I had the honor of presenting Judge John Ellington with the GTLA Champion of Justice Award. This award was given to Judge Ellington for his service to our state and for the reverence that he has shown for our Constitution and the vital role that it plays in the pursuit of justice. If you couldn't join us, please be sure to congratulate and thank Judge Ellington next time that you see him.

In the ongoing discussions over Senate Bill 141 – the unconstitutional proposal that would strip Georgia patients of their Constitutional Right to Trial by Jury – GTLA Political Director Bill Clark took our arguments to the media. Here, he is pictured with WSB-TV Reporter Lori Geary, who interviewed Bill at the State Capitol in a story highlighting the upcoming legislative consideration of SB 141.

GTLA's LEAD Program kicked off their Inaugural Session in Athens Nov. 22-23 as the class came together for "Leadership 101: Introduction to GTLA." Featuring an action-packed lineup of speakers and an all-star panel of judges, this Session provided invaluable insights to the rising stars of our Association, as well as a chance to build upon the camaraderie that makes our Association so unique. The Session culminated with a Tailgate Party before the UGA vs. Kentucky football game on Saturday.

The LEAD Class then came back together in Atlanta last weekend for Session 2 of the 2013-2014 program. On Thursday, Dec. 12, the Class joined us for a Fundraiser in support of Governor Nathan Deal, and then traveled to both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals to meet with justices and judges, as well as being sworn in to both courts if they hadn't been previously. They returned on Friday, Dec. 13, for the GTLA Holiday Workshop and had special LEAD Class programming that afternoon.

Founded in 1956, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA) is dedicated to strengthening and upholding Georgia’s civil justice system and protecting the rights of Georgia citizens and consumers.
GTLA works in the legislative, political and media arenas to ensure that Georgians know and understand the importance of their rights to justice and to make certain that these rights, which are at the very core of what it means to be American, are safeguarded and protected. |
