A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
This year, GTLA has created a brand new 'LEAD' (Leadership Education and Advanced Direction) Program within its New Lawyers Division for the purpose of educating and grooming some of our state's most promising young trial lawyers for future leadership roles in GTLA and the application deadline is quickly approaching! I encourage all of you to apply, and to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Applications for the 2013-14 LEAD Program are available online at https://www.gtla.org/index.cfm?pg=GTLALEADProgram. The deadline for submitting an application is Aug. 20. Applicants should submit a color photo and are encouraged (but not required) to include letters of recommendation. Firm sponsorship of applicants is encouraged and appreciated.

The 2013-14 LEAD Program will feature five monthly CLE sessions beginning in Athens on Nov. 22-23 (including the UGA vs. Kentucky football game) and concluding with a final session and graduation at the GTLA Annual Convention April 24-25, 2014. The various CLE sessions will be focused on the important topics that include but are not limited to: fostering leadership within GTLA, building and maintaining strong relationships with the state legislature and judiciary, expanding and involving our local TLA's, improving our community service efforts, membership recruitment, and encouraging fundraising contributions and Directed Giving. The LEAD Program itinerary will also include a "class retreat" session one weekend in March or April at a resort venue in Georgia (exact location TBD).

For more information about this year's LEAD Program or to suggest a candidate, please contact co-chairs Michael Geoffroy (770-483-6557) or Ryals Stone (229-724-8531).

GRASSROOTS REPORT
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, the South Side Metro Atlanta TLA welcomed State Representative Demetrius Douglas of Stockbridge to the monthly lunch meeting. Joined by State Representative Micah Gravley, the two legislators provided TLA members with an inside perspective on the 2013 Legislative Session, and also previewed next year's quickly-approaching term beneath the Gold Dome.

Athens TLA is hosting their Annual People's Law School this month, and Co-Chairs Josh Branch and Jimmy Hurt (pictured below) were on hand to kick off the sessions on Wednesday, Aug. 7. With seminars ranging from 'Importance of the 7th Amendment' to 'Views from the Bench,' the Athens TLA People's Law School is sure to have something for everyone!
