COMMUNICATIONS
The next time you visit the GTLA website, you may notice a few changes.  We are working with TrialSmith to upgrade our site to make it easier to use and more convenient for you.

Some of these changes include:

•Letting you choose your own Login Information and Password

•Providing you more control over information shown in the Membership Directory.  Add your law school or update your areas of practice.  Share your home address in addition to your office address so we know who your legislators are.

•Recognizing GTLA Champion and Executive Committee Members in the Membership Directory

•Giving you the ability to securely pay for events and materials via credit card on our website through our added eCommerce feature.

•Simplifying the process to register for CLEs and other events

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to improve the website.  We plan to upload video, photos and new information that we hope serves as a resource for all GTLA members.

Please share any ideas or feedback you have for the website with Jill Johnson, Communications Director.

GRASSROOTS REPORT
On Oct. 27, 2011, the law firm of Moore & Hicks, P.C. hosted a kickoff event for the new Hartwell TLA. Moore and Hicks, P.C. opened its doors in May and the new firm is focused on personal injury, criminal defense and family law.

There was a terrific turnout for the event. Special guests included Judge Steven Dillard of the Georgia Court of Appeals, Chief Judge John Bailey of the Northern Judicial Circuit, Judge Tom Hodges of the Northern Judicial Circuit, State Senator Frank Ginn, State Representative Alan Powell, State Representative Doug McKillip, former GTLA President Dennis Cathey, and current GTLA President Geoff Pope. Forge Consulting, LLC provided the delicious food and drinks. Held in the beautifully decorated Teasley House in downtown Hartwell with approximately 100 other attorneys, friends and family members, the open house was a great way to launch the new Hartwell TLA.

As Chair of the Hartwell TLA, I want to share that we are planning some exciting events for the upcoming year.  We welcome new members who are interested in getting involved.  For more information, please contact me.

The first meeting of the South Metro Atlanta "South Side" TLA was held on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 in Jonesboro. Several local firms were well represented along with a handful of solo practitioners at the inaugural meeting. GTLA’s Micah Gravley, GTLA President-Elect Jay Sadd, sponsors Forge Consulting and ML Healthcare were in attendance as well.  Representatives Glenn Baker and Virgil Fludd attended the event and shared their 2012 legislative agendas. The event served as a great opportunity to meet with colleagues and come together as we work together to build this local TLA.

As the "South Side" TLA continues to organize and we begin to discuss the future issues and goals of our TLA, we can certainly consider this first meeting a success. We hope our future meetings will be just as energetic and enthusiastic. On behalf of Millar & Mixon, LLC, I would like to thank our "South Side" colleagues, GTLA, Representatives Baker and Fludd and our sponsors, Forge Consulting and MLA Healthcare, for their support. We look forward to our next meeting.
