STLA April Luncheon

When: April 30, 2017 at Noon
Where: Savannah Golf Club
Program: Mark Tate and Jim Shipley of the Tate Law Group will discuss their recent excess judgment in the medical malpractice case of Hand v. Gonzalez. The case spanned nearly a decade in Toombs County, GA throughout which, Mark and Jim, on behalf of their clients, were forced to confront nearly every legal obstacle imaginable, including three trial judges, multiple Daubert and summary judgment motions, failed mediations, intoxicated jurors, a defense verdict, spoliation of evidence, newly discovered evidence at trial and, finally, the grant of a new trial. Issues in the case were argued in two Georgia State Courts, the Federal Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. In the end, a panel of 12 jurors returned a record verdict in the amount of $3.9 million for a couple whose lives were destroyed by the negligence of a local urologist.

LEAD Program

Our LEAD Class spent the weekend of March 23-24 in Savannah hearing from former LEAD alum and fellow GTLA members and participating in team bonding exercises. As they prepare for their graduation at the upcoming Annual Convention, we know that this group of esteemed individuals will certainly be the future leaders of our association.
