Luncheons in February, April, July, September and November are $39 for all GSAE members. The 2018 Annual Meeting is in Miramar Beach, FL (Sandestin) May 30-June 1. Registration fee for the first association executive attendee – $399; corporate supplier exhibit and sponsor packages range from $659-$2909; additional attendees from the same organization – $299 each; room rates at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort – $155 run of house (before fees).
 
 
   
In 1917, a small group of less than 10 business managers met in the office of Walter G. Cooper, secretary of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, to form the Secretaries Club of Atlanta. Please save the date of November 15 for GSAE’s 100th Anniversary Gala. More information will be available soon, including nominations for our 2017 GSAE Superlatives. GSAE’s former executive director and honorary member, Diane James, FASAE, CAE passed away on August 26 in Philadelphia, PA. She served GSAE from 1997 until 2000, when she moved to Washington, D.C., to become ASAE’s director of the allied societies program. She later worked with a number of organizations in the DC area before serving Beacon in Philadelphia. She will be missed throughout the association community. Read her obituary here.
 
 
   
Honorary member Beverly Black, CAE retired from ASHP in Bethesda, MD, on August 31. She served the organization for more than 28 years, most recently as Director, Affiliate Relations Division. Beverly served as President of GSAE's Board of Directors in 2006-2007. She and her husband are retiring at the same time and plan to split their time between Nashville and Charleston. We hope to see Beverly on November 15 for GSAE's 100th Anniversary Gala (details coming soon)!
 
 
   
Amy Kane, CAE returned to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) as the Director, CME on August 16. For the past year, she served as the Executive Director at the Ian’s Friends Foundation. Prior to that, Amy held several different positions at the ACR and Rheumatology Research Foundation between 2008-2016.

Georgia-based Construction Suppliers Association (CSA) will merge with the Oklahoma Lumbermen’s Association, allowing the association to deliver more programs to member dealers. CSA President Jim Moody, CAE announced the merger on August 17. The combined group will use the CSA name and Tyrone, GA, headquarters. It will gain a field office in Oklahoma, and OLA’s executive director will join the CSA staff as Oklahoma regional director. It’s the second major merger for CSA in three years. In 2014, CSA and the Mid South Building Material Dealers Association merged their organizations into the current CSA.

Tuesday meetings are 8-9:15 p.m. and provide 1 CAE credit hour per meeting. Fall cohort dates are October 10 and 24 and November 7 and 21.
 
GSAE is producing a "Who's Who" book for our 100th Anniversary Gala and we're looking for some volunteers to help with layout, design and securing pictures of featured members. Let Wendy know by September 23 if you're interested in serving on the "yearbook" staff.
 
The GSAE Nominating Committee is soliciting names of members interested in serving on the GSAE Board of Directors. Four seats for individual association member directors and one seat for a corporate supplier director will be available for two-year terms, beginning January 1, 2018.
 
GSAE recognizes excellence by presenting a variety of awards to members. To nominate a member for an award, simply email wendy@gsae.org. The deadline for nominations is October 2, 2017. Learn more about the awards program here
 
After committee members have evaluated potential speakers, the committee will meet on October 11 to discuss options and make recommendations for speakers and topics relevant to association professionals and the community.

  • 1,315 associations across the U.S. participated in this year’s survey, including members and non-members of 26 SAEs.
  • Participation included 11 South, 8 Northeast, 8 Midwest, and 5 West states and areas.
  • Each SAE report features its own data, or for its region.
  • The national study compares compensation across states for 39 positions.
  • Meets IRS requirements for third party data.

The GSAE Bylaws vote passed 97 for, 2 opposed as of August 30, 2017. Thirty-two percent of GSAE’s association executive membership voted. The changes are effective immediately and may be found online

As a reminder to association leaders, comments on possible changes to the overtime rule are due to the Department of Labor by September 25. The overtime rule has been identified as a major area of concern for nonprofit employers. ASAE has already submitted its comments to DOL, and has drafted model comments that other associations can review and adapt if they want to provide their own feedback to DOL. READ MORE
