As president and CEO of Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), William Pate is in charge of maintaining tourism as one of the city's top economic drivers. The industry brought nearly 51 million visitors to metro Atlanta in 2015, generating $15 billion in visitor spending and sustaining approximately 250,000 jobs.


Telework SIG Meeting: Time Management for the Teleworker  – 1 CAE hour
Join us for a discussion on how to effectively manage your time in a remote office. There will also be a Q&A session with Lori K. Spear, CAE, Executive Vice President, SAIS, whose organization is completely virtual. We’ll also be sharing some flex work options, as the I-85 bridge collapse is prompting organizations to examine the ways they support their staff during a time of increased traffic congestion.

Tech Ninjas Meeting – 1 CAE hour
Formerly the Web Warriors and Technology SIG, we’ve combined to create a forum for association staff to learn and share about techie-stuff as it relates to associations. This group will also assist GSAE staff with online awareness and social media messaging. All are welcome to join us Wednesday morning to help shape the direction of the group and learn about all the cool social media stuff we’re planning in celebration of GSAE’s centennial year!

David Ellis, CAE, executive vice president of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association since 2005, will become the new executive vice president of the Charleston Home Builders Association by mid-April. He has served 27 years as an executive with local building industry organizations, has been recognized by the National Association of Home Builders as the best new executive officer in the nation and was honored in 2003 as the group's executive officer of the year. David is a past chair of GSAE, past president of the Home Builders Association of Georgia Executive Officers Council and the NAHB Executive Officers Council. We wish you all the best, David!

Scheduled to open in spring of 2018, the Homewood Suites – Athens is located just behind The Classic Center. The Homewood Suites – Athens will open following the Hyatt Place – Athens, which is scheduled to open in August 2017. Missy Wilson, Director of Sales, Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau, is delighted to announce that along with a new Springhill Suites on Broad Street and additional rooms under construction at the Best Western, Athens expects to add 600 downtown hotel rooms within the next 24 months. 
 
The GSAE Foundation is accepting internship grant applications through May 1! Summer and fall are perfect times to hire extra help at your organization and introduce a college student to the wonders of the association management profession. Since 2002, the Foundation has supported 30 organizations and awarded nearly $45,000 to support the association profession. View examples of some sections of the application to help you craft a compelling job description. Download and send in your organization’s form by May 1. Recipients will be recognized during the Annual Meeting May 31-June 2.

We need 2 CAEs to act as proctors for the 2017 CAE exam on May 5 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Meeting Expectations (3525 Piedmont Road, Building 5, Suite 300, Atlanta, GA 30305). To act as a proctor, you must meet the requirements set out by the CAE Commission.
 
Join us on May 4 for the kick-off meeting of GSAE's CAE Study Group. Take this opportunity to connect with your fellow study group participants, meet some of our esteemed facilitators and learn more about the study group format.
 
GSAE has partnered with the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC) to offer a discount to all GSAE members on their license for showing scenes from motion pictures and other audiovisual programs. Through your membership with GSAE, you will receive a 10 percent annual discount.

Electronic and paper invoices will direct you to our secure PCI-compliant payment page or to our fax number.
  4. If you have any questions about the validity of a message from GSAE – from staff, our officers, our website or our e-newsletter provider, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

The Foundation’s studies and the academic projects it supports can serve as a framework for having important conversations with your own board of directors. This study explores what members look for when it comes to professional development and continuing education, including the importance of content, sources members turn to for education, how members prefer to pay for learning and how different generations view the value of education.
 
Earlier this week, a broad coalition of charitable nonprofit groups urged Congress to maintain current law that prohibits 501(c)(3) groups from endorsing political candidates. ASAE believes the Johnson Amendment is an important safeguard for the charitable sector. "Public trust is critical to the credibility and effectiveness of donor-based nonprofits," said ASAE President and CEO John Graham, FASAE, CAE.
