A heartfelt thank you to our distinguished Leadership Academy faculty for a successful 2015-2016 session. Facilitators led sessions on topics ranging from governance and innovation to creating member value and career pathways. Participants learned from association professionals and supplier members who gave of their time and talents to help shape the future of association leaders in Georgia. We'll be celebrating the 14 graduates at the September 21 Luncheon & Abit Massey Lecture Series.
 
Membership dues for 2017 remain unchanged and are due January 1. Luncheons in February, April, July and September are $39 for all GSAE members. The 2017 Annual Meeting is in Macon, GA, May 31-June 2. Registration fee for the first association executive attendee – $349; corporate suppliers – $409; additional attendees from the same organization – $249 each; room rates at Macon Marriott City Center Hotel – $129 run of house.

Gabriel Eckert, FASAE, CAE, Executive Director, Building Owners and Managers Association of Georgia, was elected to serve as the 30th international president of FarmHouse Fraternity at the 49th Biennial FarmHouse Conclave in Denver. "FarmHouse has made a tremendously positive impact on my life, and it is rewarding to see the impact it's making on so many young men across North America today," said Eckert.

Senior Sales Manager Missy Brandt Wilson, MBA has accepted the promotion to Director of Sales for the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau, effective upon her return from maternity leave in August. Missy has a proven track record in Athens and was instrumental to the success of GSAE's Annual Meeting in Athens this past June. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) announces the appointment of Joe Bocherer – an experienced and proven leader within the convention, hospitality and tourism industries – as the organization’s new Chief Commercial Officer. Bocherer, who most recently served as Head of Sales and Marketing for InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) U.S. franchise division, has 20 years of convention and visitors bureau and hotel sales experience with extensive knowledge of group and transient-driven business. As the GWCCA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Bocherer presides over Sales and Marketing, Business Development, Customer Analytics and Revenue Management, all products and contracted service agreements. The National Sales Network (NSN) presented longtime meeting management partner Meeting Expectations, Inc. with the "Team Work Makes the Dream Work" award on Aug. 5 at the National Sales Network 20th Anniversary Conference and Diversity Career Fair held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta. David Richardson, NSN executive director said the success of NSN’s annual conference was in part due to the "support and hard work" received from Meeting Expectations staff.
 
Synthetic Turf Council (STC), the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to serving the synthetic turf industry, announced that the Board of Directors selected Daniel K. Bond, CAE as STC's new President/CEO effective August 15, 2016. As part of the management change and growth strategy for the STC, Stringfellow Management Group (SMG) has been hired as its Association Management Company. SMG will manage the STC from its Maryland headquarters, and will continue to have a local presence in Georgia; Melanie Taylor will continue to serve as the STC's Director of Operations from Atlanta. The GSAE Nominating Committee is soliciting names of members interested in serving on the GSAE Board of Directors. Five seats for individual association member directors and one seat for a corporate supplier director will be available for two-year terms, beginning January 1, 2017. The Nominating Committee will include Past Chair, Jim Fowler, CAE; Chair, David Ellis, CAE; Chair-Elect, Tara Morrison, CAE, CMP, and two members at large, Regina Robuck and Clark Thomas, CAE.
 
GSAE recognizes excellence by presenting a variety of awards to members. To nominate a member for an award, simply email wendy@gsae.org. The deadline for nominations is September 30, 2016.
 
After committee members have evaluated potential speakers, the committee will meet on October 4 to discuss options and make recommendations for speakers and topics relevant to association professionals and the community.

GSAE is proud to partner with Institute for Organization Management, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s professional development program for nonprofit executives, and offer two $500 partial tuition scholarships to one of Institute’s 2017 sites. If you are interested in this scholarship opportunity, contact Wendy by October 14.
 
Kennesaw State University students are looking to do an organizational communication audit (pro bono) as part of their graduation requirement. A communication assessment maps and measures the value and effectiveness of communication both within an organization and to key external stakeholders.
 
ASAE Foundation is accepting applications for its Innovation Grants Program (IGP) through September 30. IGP provides monetary awards to support innovation exploration and development in the association community. There will be up to four grants awarded in three categories: travel, exploration and hybrid (a combination of travel and exploration). Grant recipients will receive awards up to $10,000.
