Focus More on the People and the Business

While technology is always evolving and IT paradigms shift frequently in the information age, there are some core critical skills for public sector IT professionals that remain constant. We must be technology enablers and visionaries, and today we definitely must be more focused on the PEOPLE than the technology within our organizations. Focusing on people involves aligning IT with the business of government, delivering superior customer service and IT support to end users, working with management to decrease costs and increase efficiencies, and successfully interfacing people with technology. If you’re just focused on technology, you are missing the mark as an IT leader in the 21st century.

I encourage you to build and strengthen relationships at all levels across your organization and then leverage these relationships to deliver significant value and achieve stellar efficiencies with technology across your agency. GMIS can certainly help with the arsenal of tools, info and networking available via list serve requests, our Knowledge Garden, Data Dive, chapter meetings, GMIS sponsors and partners, and our annual international conference!

Carpe diem!
