2015-2016 President
Georgia GMIS

In the spirit of completion of our journey to the Information Technology Leadership Program (ITLP), our Fall Georgia GMIS conference will be embracing the momentous event of GRADUATION. We will be taking what we have learned from previous conferences, along with career and life experiences and transform into successful IT leaders and mentors. For those have that have not yet achieved their ITLP, a glimpse of what’s in store will keep the dream alive and hopefully provide the motivation to finish the program: TO GRADUATE! So we welcome you attendees (students), and ITLP graduates (alumni) to our Georgia GMIS Fall 2015 Conference with pomp and circumstance!

This conference will give you the opportunity to learn how the concepts and practices of IT project management can be used in state and local government environments by strategic business and technical operations IT leaders. The interactive sessions will include information related to business processes and leadership, project management industry standards and practices, efficient ways to keep projects on the right track and strategies for implementing project management. All of these techniques can be applied to your IT organization alleviating chaos. Believe it or not, this can be accomplished! You will leave the sessions with practical strategies to lead successful IT projects that will improve your organization and hopefully inspire collaboration and confidence for many projects to come.

Michael Hourihan, from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, will be providing strategic project training from his more than 25 years of experience in public and private sector as a business coach at the managerial level. Houihan’s expertise will lead us into a group good/bad/ugly with emphasis on project management, based off of our experiences. Our project management technical training is presented by Dell, with a general overview, select methodologies, as well as managed deployments. We then have a panel discussion with select GMIS members who are trained in diverse methodologies, with an interactive Q&A. We continue our ITLP training with the well reknown, often therapeutic good, bad and ugly session, as well as a project lab in the afternoon for ITLP project candidates.

Coming off a highly successful spring "beta test," Georgia GMIS will again be offering Geek Trak. The Geek Trak program has been engineered for highly technical professional staff that supports and enables our users and communities across Georgia.

In collaboration with our Fall 2015 Premier Technical Training partner, EMC, Georgia GMIS is proud to offer CompTIA Network + training. We are offering this industry standard program to any Georgia GMIS member. Registration for Geek Trak will be $425 and includes expert instruction, training labs, course materials and practice exams. These will be available for your use for up to six months after the conference.

The instructor, Steven White, has been an instructor for Southern Crescent Technical College almost 17 years. He is also the program coordinator for the networking specialist program. He was one of the founding instructors for the Cisco Academy in the Southern Crescent area in 1999. He is Cisco CCNA, CCNP and CCAI certified. Some of his graduates have gone on to work for Google, Microsoft, French Orange Group, Southern Company, and many other large organizations throughout Georgia.

Geek Trak will run in parallel to the ITLP, an educational endeavor with our strategic partner, the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. With ITLP and Geek Trak, Georgia GMIS is continuing to provide first class training for today’s technologists and leaders serving Georgia’s state and local professionals, as well as other agencies, schools and communities. We will have networking opportunities with your peers, IT leaders and solution providers.

We are excited for what’s in-store and can’t wait to share it with you!

See you in Savannah!
